Louis Bencardino and Bencardino Excavating Hired to Handle Demolition and Renovations at Williams Way Senior Housing Project
Bencardino Excavating Executes Construction Site Work at Historic Center City Philadelphia High-Rise.
- Scranton--Wilkes-Barre-Hazleton, PA (1888PressRelease) November 21, 2012 - Bencardino Excavating (www.bencardino.com), a full-service excavation company located in Bucks County, Pa. and owned by Louis A. Bencardino, was hired by Philadelphia-based general contractor Domus to handle demolition and renovation work on the Williams Way Housing Project in Center City.
Specifically, Bencardino Excavating will handle demolition and excavation site work which includes undercutting the existing material, installing sanitary storm and water for the building and all of the foundation excavation.
A collaborative venture between Spruce Street Senior Residences (Pennrose) and architectural design firm Wallace, Robert and Todd, the new structure will be a 56-unit, six-story high-rise catering to the elderly LGBT population in Philadelphia. The building will also house 1,800 square feet of commercial space on the ground floor. All told, the property will be 59,000 square feet and the completion date of the overall building project is estimated to be December 2013.
The groundbreaking at 249-257 S. 13th Street, rescheduled due to bad weather, took place on November 9 with former Governor Ed Rendell, Philadelphia Mayor Michael Nutter and others from the local community in attendance.
"We have done some pre-groundbreaking demolition on this project and have risen to the challenge of dealing with a sturdy and stout building within such limited space," said Lou Bencardino, referring to the narrow, alley-like streets surrounding the Williams Way building. "We look forward to completing this job for Domus and ultimately helping to bring new housing to the Philadelphia elderly community."
