Los Angeles International Spirits Competition Winners Announced
Los Angeles International Spirits Competition was held at Fairplex in Pomona, home of the LA County Fair.
- (1888PressRelease) June 26, 2016 - A rum took the top spot of the Los Angeles International Spirits Competition, recently held at Fairplex in Pomona, home of the LA County Fair. Dictador 20 Year Old Solery System Rum took Best of Show with 96 Points. Pacific Pickle Works - Asparagusto took Best of Show in the mixers competition with 94 points.
The 2016 spirits competition had 401 Spirits entries from 149 producers. For the past three years, mixers have had their own competition being that so many entries are received in this non-alcoholic product category.
Besides the two best of shows, the competition also awarded 45 Best of Category Awards, 9 Best of Division Awards, 147 Gold Medal Awards, 158 Silver Medal Awards, and 64 Bronze Medal Awards.
The competition received spirits from 29 countries: Austria, Bahamas, Britain, Canada, China, Colombia, Dominican Republic, England, France, Germany, Holland, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Japan, Lithuania, Martinique, Mexico, Myanmar, Poland, Puerto Rico, Poland, Scotland, Slovakia, Spain, Sweden, UK, USA and Virgin Islands. The panel of judges haled from throughout the United States.

· Best of Whiskey: Dewar's 12 Year Old The Ancestor Whiskey/Whisky, Blended Scotch 11 - 20 years old 95 Points
· Best of Gin: Dictador Aged Gin Ortodoxy Gin, 94 Points
· Best of Shochu: Iichiko Kurobin Shochu, Barley, 94 Points
· Best of Vodka: Wyborowa Vodka, Rye, 94 Points
· Best of Brandy: Candolini Bianca Grappa Brandy, Grappa, 93 Points
· Best of Liqueurs: Chase Elder Flower Liqueur, Herb, 92 Points
· Best of Tequila: Ayate 100% Blue Agave Tequila, Mexico, Anejo, 91 Points

The public will get its first opportunity to taste the medal-winning spirits at Cheers - L.A's Wine, Spirits, Beer & Food Festival June 25. Cheers features the award winners from all the Los Angeles International Competitions (beer, wine, spirits and extra virgin olive oils) as well as gourmet food trucks and dancing. Winners will also be available for tasting at the LA County Fair, Sept. 2-25. The Fair features a complete wine/spirits/beer education program taught by industry experts.
