Lone Star Gridiron 2012 Texas High School Football Players of the Year
"Each year, we start with a list of a good dozen in each class and then have to whittle them down," said Chris Doelle, co-founder and Managing Partner of Lone Star Gridiron. "The more you get to know the kids and their stories, the harder it becomes. These winners represent a lot of other deserving players as well as their own accomplishments."

Once again, Lone Star Gridiron breaks down the top players in each of the five classes and once again, the decision was extremely tough.

The Lone Star Gridiron 2012 Texas High School Football Players of the Year:
5A - Jake Oliver, WR, Dallas Jesuit High School
Jake Oliver stood out as one of the best receivers Class 5A football has ever seen. Receivers are generally not given enough touches to "take control of a game," but Jake certainly did. You see this much more in the lower classifications, but in Class 5A it is a rarity. Jake Oliver finished his Senior season with 93 receptions for 1,354 yards and 18 touchdowns. The 93 receptions puts him in a tie for 43rd place all-time for receptions in a season. His 18 touchdowns ties him for 97th place all-time for receiving touchdowns in a season. His high school career ends with 308 receptions for 4,567 yards and 56 touchdowns. The 308 receptions is an all-time state record for career receptions. The 4,566 yards puts him in 2nd place all-time for career receiving yards. The 56 receiving touchdowns puts him in 2nd place all-time for career receiving touchdowns.
