- (1888PressRelease) July 06, 2016 - Prague, Czech Republic : Lockheed Martin has been awarded a $357 million contract for Advanced Electronic Guidance and Instrumentation System (AEGIS) in-service combat systems for several nations*. The AEGIS Ballistic Missile Defense System seamlessly integrates the SPY-1 radar, the MK 41 Vertical Launching System for missiles, the SM-3 Standard missile, and the ship's command and control system, in order to give ships the ability to defend against enemy ballistic missiles.
In light of this news, SMi is delighted to announce that Lockheed Martin has joined the expert speaker line up for the Air Missile Defence Technology 2016 conference, which takes place in Prague on 24-25th October.
Business Area Chief Engineer of Mission Support Ian Spillane will be giving a Special Address on Day One of the conference entitled "Providing Low Cost, Low Risk Route to a Modern Interoperable Ground Based Air Defence (GBAD) Solution". The presentation will provide an overview of today's typical GBAD needs and an in-depth description of how modern C4i technology can be used to enhance the ability of GBAD commanders to make accurate and expeditious decisions - from optimising the performance of both legacy and new sensor & effector capabilities to delivering interoperability as a Force multiplier. Mr. Spillane will also highlight the advantages provided by Lockheed Martin's SkyKeeper C4i products in the GBAD domain.
Air Missile Defence Technology 2016 will additionally feature presentations from the Czech Air Forces, NATO International Staff, Slovakian Air Force, Thales Nederland, U.S. Army Europe, German Air Force, the Royal Netherlands Army, Lithuanian Air Force, Missile Defence Advocacy Alliance and many more.
The conference will provide a platform to explore developments on capabilities and requirements from national military forces on their Air Missile Defence programmes; the challenges associated with developing those programmes; and the importance of interoperability between nations to ensure a cost-efficient and effective Air Missile Defence strategy.
In addition, the event will hold an exclusive post-conference workshop on 26th October on 'The Benefits of a Truly Integrated Air and Missile Defence System', hosted by Colonel (retired) Jimmy Jenkins, Director, IAMD and Land C4I Systems, Missile Defence and Protective Systems, Northrop Grumman.
