Local Women-Owned Small Business Pivots to Help Women in Need

Top Quote Glenview, IL. This isn’t just the story of another business pivoting during the pandemic: It’s the realization of a dream come true. This past November Jill Weeks launched a company that gives back to the community and cares for the environment. She had no idea that the premise would be put to the test so quickly. End Quote
  • (1888PressRelease) July 07, 2020 - Jill founded Très Mimi to bring women together and do good. After extensive research she learned that over 400,000 pairs of underwear were needed in shelters serving women fleeing domestic abuse– and federal funding was declining. Underwear was almost never donated (and truthfully, who would want to wear someone else’s undies?).

Jill didn’t want to just donate underwear – she wanted to develop a company that supported women where and when they’re in need. So, ignoring the advice of marketing experts to adopt a trendy 1:1 donation model, Jill started doing something she loved: designing beautiful, comfortable, environmentally friendly clothes in a women-owned manufacturing facility, and at the same time providing a key essential for women fleeing domestic abuse.

In March, when Covid-19 hit, Très Mimi was ready to donate another 500 pairs of underwear for donation. Wings Program – a Chicagoland shelter, desperately called out for food, cleaning supplies, and medicine. Très Mimi sprang into action and poured its available funds into purchasing these vital needs for the shelter.

Then Jill heard battle cries from the front lines for masks. There was no money left to make the masks – what was Jill to do? Thinking quickly, she created a GoFundMe account, and Très Mimi raised the funds to manufacture high-quality reusable eco-friendly masks to the underserved, especially in Black and Brown communities where they were needed the most.

What is truly remarkable is that Très Mimi isn’t some big corporation, but a small business in its infancy. With determination and grit, Jill’s desire of helping others came true. Très Mimi was able to adapt quickly and meet the needs of the community where it was needed most.

Très Mimi is so much more than this. Their fabrics are eco-friendly – they even use ocean plastic recycled ribbon and biodegradable bags. Jill designs styles that flatter all women from XS and XXL. Her clothing, while stylish, is timeless, sophisticated, and comfortable.
