Local Students Pack Aid For OK Tornado Victims
Young volunteers help Children's Hunger Fund ready a shipment for Moore, OK relief.
- (1888PressRelease) May 23, 2013 - [Sylmar, Calif.] - They want to deliver hope to the tornado victims. Sixty students from Calvary Christian School in Pacific Palisades came together to impact the lives of those affected by the Moore tornado by packing gift boxes full of relief aid.
"This disaster has captured the hearts of our nation," said Tim Kirk, Children's Hunger Fund's Vice President. "Everyone is looking for some way to help, and today, these students are helping in a big way!"
Using donations from local corporations, the students packed gift-sized boxes of shampoo, soaps, toothbrushes, and other items which will be very useful to the families who receive them. These "Gift Paks" will be loaded onto a truck today along with blankets, shoes, cereal, and nutrition bars, which will then be driven to the Moore area to be distributed through local churches and other aid agencies.
Children's Hunger Fund began their response as soon as the news broke, reaching out to friends and partners in the area who have the capability to either supply relief items or distribute them to the suffering children and families.
Another semi-truck loaded with water, Gatorade, granola bars and other ready-to-eat food was shipped last night from Children's Hunger Fund's San Antonio distribution center. These will be distributed by a team of volunteers from Foundations Church of Tulsa. They will be providing frontline relief aid for displaced families in Moore.
So far, five truckloads of aid have been committed to the effort, including product donations from PepsiCo, Nestlé, and CVS Pharmacy.
