  • Sioux Falls, SD (1888PressRelease) October 19, 2011 - Mixed has earned platinum status through the Green Business Bureau's (GBB) green certification program (www.gbb.org), a nationally recognized certification that helps businesses go green.

Mixed is recognized by GBB for its outstanding commitment to conserving the environment and for adopting principles and practices that demonstrate the restaurant's ability to operate in a green manner.

The GBB provides national, third-party green business certifications for businesses that strive to reach sustainability, save money and improve the environment.

When asked why he chose GBB's green certification program, Owner and General Manager of Mixed, Cole Shawd says, "I wanted to join an organization that cared about being green as much as I do and learn about the many ways of going green and apply these new techniques into my business. The GBB program is in it to educate and become a partner in bettering the world we live in."

"GBB is proud to recognize Mixed restaurant's contribution to making the environment a healthier place to live and work," says Marcos J. Cordero, LEED AP and CEO of GBB. "The added benefits of green certifications include cost-savings, increased ROI and increased marketing opportunities that companies receive when implementing green practices."

In order for companies to achieve GBB's platinum level status of green business certification, they must adhere to certain guidelines, standards and procedures set forth by industry experts.

"Once those guidelines have been met, businesses that become platinum certified almost always see positive changes, including increased employee morale, customer satisfaction and increased savings due to less waste," says Cordero.

According to Shawd, Mixed saves up to $15,000 annually by implementing the green practices they've learned through GBB's program. Some of the green initiatives the restaurant has implemented include using compostable cups and plates and installing energy efficient equipment for lighting and refrigeration.

Since going green, Shawd says, "I've seen cost savings, positive feedback from customers, customer loyalty due to being green and a better and cleaner atmosphere in the restaurant."
