Local Police Organization Endorses Frank Wood for Florida House
The Mount Dora Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge 147, has endorsed Frank Wood in his run for the Florida House of Representatives, District 25, which includes portions of Lake, Volusia and Seminole counties.
- Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) October 21, 2010 - This announcement follows on the heels of other community and statewide endorsements that include The Orlando Sentinel, The Florida Federation of Business and Professional Women, Florida AFSCME Retirees, Seminole UniServ, The Florida Education Association, The Democratic Veterans Caucus of Florida, The Lake County Education Association/LCEA, among others.
Wood, a 30-year veteran Economics teacher at Mount Dora High School, said he was deeply honored by the law enforcement organization's endorsement.
"Public safety, a lower crime rate and responsible standards of civil behavior are absolutely necessary for a growing economy, thriving entrepreneurism and a satisfying quality-of-life for all citizens," he said. "It's paramount that we preserve and improve law enforcement and criminal justice funding. Let's provide law enforcement and criminal justice professionals with the best in training, equipment and support."
"In addition, let's provide more opportunities for teachers and criminal justice professionals to systematically educate our schoolchildren about the criminal justice system, crime and consequence, and civic responsibility," Wood added.
Wood, a former Lake County Teacher of the Year and holder of the prestigious National Board of Professional Teaching Standards certification, has been urged for years to run for the legislative seat.
Wood shares credit for his campaign's accelerating momentum with the "can-do spirit" of his volunteers and a growing base of voters from both parties and all walks of life, who believe state government needs more common sense.
Wood believes voters are ready for genuine change in Tallahassee. "More and more people believe government should be practical and useful, rather than bureaucratic and self-serving."
