Local Initiatives, Government & Industry Working Together
Schaefer's company focuses on producing quality, all-natural pickles and specialty foods using fresh local produce.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) October 18, 2011 - With help from the Suffolk County Food Policy Council and Legislator Vivian Viloria-Fisher, Divine Brine Foods Inc. of Huntington Station, NY, has been able to move part of its pickle manufacturing to Crown I Manufacturing facility in Bay Shore, NY. Crown I is a division of local food distributor J. Kings Food Service Professionals, Inc.
Up until now, Robert Schaefer, president of Divine Brine Foods, was forced to do most of his production in Ulster County, NY (125 miles away) because he couldn't find a local Suffolk County facility that could handle the volume of his pickle production. Schaefer's company focuses on producing quality, all-natural pickles and specialty foods using fresh local produce.
John King, Chief Customer Officer at J. Kings, met Mr. Schaefer at the Suffolk County Food Policy Council and proposed that they try making some of his product line at his manufacturing facility in Bay Shore.
Schaefer produces his signature "Devilish Dills", "Horseradish Dills" and "Wasabi Dills" in a facility that is only a 15 minute ride from his warehouse and distribution center in Bohemia.
"This makes so much sense for us," said Schaefer. "Our effort is to support local growers and J. Kings is a leader on Long Island for that. We also end up making less of a carbon footprint on the environment because we are not transporting product hundreds of miles every week, back and forth from Kingston."
John King added, "Crown I is a world-class USDA culinary manufacturing facility, including Krazy Cooks Kitchen, WB Stockyard and Kitchen Cuts, and J. Kings' distribution is second to none. Being so close to his business, Robert will be able to focus on sales and marketing and grow his business."
J. Kings also partnered recently with FeelGoods Café, another local business Since last year they've been mass producing and distributing their line of V-Edgy Burgers and all-natural grain salads, to bring healthy, vegetarian menu options to restaurants, schools and other institutions.
Divine Brine products can now be found in many locations around Long Island such Whole Foods Market in Jericho, all of the Uncle Giuseppe's Marketplace stores and Southdown Market. Their products can also be found throughout the New York City Greenmarket system at Union Square, Columbus Ave, Jackson Height, Inwood, Sunnyside and Carroll Gardens.
