Local History Expert Will Indulge An MDPL Audience On How Prohibition Influenced The History Of Miami Beach
Miami Design Preservation League welcomes Seth Bramson, historian and author, to the Fall Lecture Series to discuss prohibition as part of Miami Beach's history.
- Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) September 06, 2012 - Due to the success of their kick-off Fall lecture entitled Gambling, Miami Design Preservation League (MDPL) is excited to introduce the next lecture in the series on"How Crime and Corruption Shaped Miami Beach". The second lecture in the series will discuss how the secret underworld of prohibition of influenced the history of Miami Beach. The upcoming lecture dates are as follows: Prohibition (10/2), Drugs (10/28), and Miami Vice (11/8). All lectures take place at the Art Deco Welcome Center (1001 Ocean Drive, Miami Beach). Each lecture is free and open to the public. Food and Beverages will be served at each event.
"The first lecture on gambling was very interesting and informative, I can't wait to see what the next lecture topic has in store," Richard Towers, MDPL Special Events Manager stated in a recent interview. MDPL is back with its second lecture of the series on October 2, 2012 with Miami historian and author, Seth Bramson. Bramson will discuss prohibition as part of Miami Beach's history. Specifically, the lecture will cover an overview of prohibition's impact on Miami Beach crime, culture and tourism during the period of the ban (1920-1933) and beyond.
Bramson is now working on his 22nd and 23rd books, one of which will be titled "Jewels in the Sunshine: The Flagler System Hotels" and the other "Beach is Dynamite! The History of Miami Beach High." Additionally he is the author of more than 110 articles on South Florida local and Florida transportation history including five in juried or refereed publications. Bramson is also the Adjunct Professor of history and Historian in Residence at Barry University and Adjunct Professor of History at FIU, where he teaches all of the University's South Florida and Florida courses.
