Fitness is My Sickness (FIMS) is excited to feature their Sign & Sweat Fitness Classes by hosting their quarterly Sign & Sweat Workshop.
- San Diego, CA (1888PressRelease) March 09, 2019 - Fitness is My Sickness (FIMS) is excited to feature their Sign & Sweat Fitness Classes by hosting their quarterly Sign & Sweat Workshop on March 9, 2019 from 10am – 12pm. Traditionally, fitness hasn’t been very accessible to the deaf and hard of hearing, but Fitness Is My Sickness aims to change that in the San Diego Community.
According to the National Institute on Deafness and Other Communication Disorders, approximately 15% of American adults are reported to have some form of hearing impairment. As a result, the need to encourage physical fitness by making the gym more accessible has never been so great.
Owner, Monique Allen is excited about making her gym a place of inclusion. She says, “We had such a positive response from our first Sign and Sweat workshop, we decided to continue them, and we could not be more excited.”
This Fitness Is My Sickness Sign & Sweat Fitness Workshop will be held on March 9, 2019, from 10am – 12pm at 7202 El Cajon Blvd, San Diego, CA 92115. “Our workshop is Free to the public, and we welcome and encourage all levels and abilities to attend”, said Monique Allen. The workshop includes adaptive fitness classes including sign language, standard visual cues, and bass heavy music. Attendees will have the opportunity to learn some simple sign language and instruction on how to incorporate the use of gestures, demos, and even facial expressions to encourage inclusiveness.
Fitness Is My Sickness offers their signature Sign & Sweat Fitness quarterly workshops and weekly classes as part of their other services. This is an opportunity to make the gym and fitness more welcoming and accessible, while increasing their community outreach.
