Local Author Spices up Indiana Township
Through historic images, Spiceland Township shines
- Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) September 23, 2014 - The newest addition to Arcadia Publishing's Images of America series is Spiceland Township from author Richard Pickering Ratcliff, lifelong resident. The book not only covers the town and Township of Spiceland at large but also touches on some of the close-by communities that helped shape the people and its environs.
From the National Road at Ogden of Dunreith, explore and discover little known facts that helped shape not only Spiceland (the town and Township both), but the county and state that housed it; as it was known.
Although created in 1842, the area now known as Spiceland township was officially settled by North Carolinian Quakers in the early 1820's. Mr. Ratcliff expertly weaves a narrative of the Township in which he grew up with more than 200 vintage and some modern images chronicling the steady growth and steadfastness of Henry County's most populated Township.
Images of America: Spiceland Township presents the entrepreneurial, educational, and industrial fortitude of the people within Henry County in photographs from the early 1800s through the 1970's. To start the penultimate chapter, Richard Ratcliff treats readers with a touching soliloquy that makes us all long to know and love the legacy that was.
