  • Dallas, TX (1888PressRelease) September 17, 2010 - Texas Scottish Rite Hospital for Children (TSRHC) patients will participate in a Learn to Golf clinic taught by golf and allied healthcare professionals specially trained to teach children with physical challenges. The clinic will take place this Saturday, September 11, from 9 a.m. to noon at Polo Field Golf Center in San Antonio, Texas.

Joshua, age 8 of San Antonio, Texas, has been a patient at TSRHC since he was 7 weeks old. Born breech, Joshua is treated at the hospital for conditions including knee dislocation, clubfeet http://www.tsrhc.org/clubfoot-foot-disorders.htm and hip dysplasia http://www.tsrhc.org/hip-dyslasia-perthes.htm, or dislocated hip. Since his first hospital visit, Joshua has had approximately seven surgeries. This will be Joshuas second time to participate in a Learn to Golf clinic. Joshua attends Ralph Langley Elementary School and is in the third grade.

Additionally, Joshua has been selected as a 2010 MetroPCS Dallas White Rock Marathon patient champion. Starting in 2007, several TSRHC patients offered to help represent the many bright faces treated at TSRHC by becoming patient champions. The patient champion program is a way for the community to participate in race-weekend activities and fundraise on behalf of a patient, and Joshua hopes to raise awareness about TSRHC and his experiences at the hospital in the San Antonio community. The marathon will be December 5, 2010, and Joshua will take part in race weekend festivities as well as cheer on the 22,000 runners.
