Living With Miss G by Mearene Jordan, Long-time Personal Assistant to Ava Gardner, Now Available
Living With Miss G offers rare insight into Ava Gardner's life as a Silver Screen Star.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) August 27, 2012 - The Ava Gardner Museum is pleased to announce the publication of Living With Miss G, a memoir by Ava Gardner's longtime personal assistant, Mearene Jordan.
As Gardner biographer Doris Rollins Cannon writes in the book's Foreword, the Hollywood movie star and her maid/assistant/confidante "had a bond of sisterhood unheard of in the upper echelons of the film industry, and rarely anywhere else." She adds, "In an era when the 'N' word was used harshly, freely and frequently, and movie stars were often treated like property of the studios, the two women protected and comforted each other as sisters, had spats like sisters, and were blessed to have each other to lean on as they traveled the diverse and rocky paths of their lives."
Many of the book's real-life episodes arguably would rival some of the best fiction on the market. They range from excursions with billionaire Howard Hughes and visits at the Cuban estate of the loveable Ernest ("Papa") Hemingway to painfully degrading moments in hotels, restaurants and clubs across America where blacks were not welcomed.
Jordan will be in Smithfield for the annual Ava Gardner Festival, October 5-7, to celebrate her book's release and to meet the many Ava Gardner fans who flock to the Ava Gardner Museum to enjoy exhibits, heritage tours, and movie screenings. She will also make time to visit the grave of her employer and best friend for the first time since the star's death in 1990.
Living With Miss G is available for purchase in paperback and for Kindle at www.amazon.com. Details on events and scheduling for the Ava Gardner Festival are available on the Ava Gardner Museum's website, www.avagardner.org, or may be obtained by calling the museum at 919-934-5830.
