Living Kidney Donors Network Provides A Way For A Recipient To Thank Their Donor
Kidney recipients can present a unique one of a kind starfish to say thank you to their donors for the gift of a new kidney this holiday season.
- Chicago, IL (1888PressRelease) December 03, 2010 - In the past 10 years, the kidney transplant waiting list has almost double to over 87,000 people. The number of kidneys available from deceased donors is unable to keep up with the demand. Increasing the number of living kidney donors is the only way to ever shorten or one day end the wait for a kidney transplant.
The LKDN "Starfish" Donor Appreciation Award is being introduced by the Living Kidney Donors Network (LKDN). This one of a kind, hand-blown glass Starfish, is a memorable way to convey the deep sentiment that recipients or their friends/family members can give to show their appreciation for the donor's personal gift of donating a kidney.
"The Starfish is a representation from the story where a young man takes starfish that have been left after low tide and throws them back into the ocean before they die. When asked, the young man tells the stranger what he's doing. The stranger points out that there are miles of beach and asks how can the young man possibly can make a difference. The young man picks up a starfish, runs into the water and throws the starfish beyond the breaking waves. He proceeds to comment to the stranger "I made a difference to that starfish." explains Harvey Mysel, founder of the Living Kidney Donors Network and kidney transplant recipient. Harvey goes on to state, "There is no greater joy or greater reward than to make a fundamental difference in someone's life."
The Starfish is 5"- 6" in diameter, one of a kind and made of hand-blown glass. The starfish is a gift sent to your donor when donating $49 or more to the Living Kidney Donors Network.
