  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) August 05, 2016 - On Friday, August 5th at 1 p.m., Vice Mayor Mann will be proclaiming "Percy W. Marshall Sr. Day" in Cincinnati, Ohio. The proclamation will be presented in Committee Room B on the third floor in City Hall, located at 801 Plum Street, Cincinnati, Ohio.

Back in Los Angeles, Living Advantage is excited to celebrate this day and honor Mr. Marshall on his 103rd birthday. Mr. Marshall, born on August 5th, 1913, was married to Gennie Mae Marshall. He was the father to nine children and grandfather to our Executive Director, Pamela Clay. He worked at the 1st Norwood General Motors Plant in Ohio and was awarded for never missing one day of work in his 42 years of service.

Over the past century, he's become a beacon in the community as a hard-working, thoughtful and faithful citizen. His favorite pastimes include singing, golf, and giving back to those less fortunate. He's produced several country western albums that express both his difficult challenges and his love for people. He's experienced equal success on the golf course, being one of the first African Americans to play at the Avon Field Golf Course in the 1940's and in 2003, he was inducted into the Black Golf Hall of Fame. He has also collected over 2,500 golf clubs for underprivileged kids.

As an advocate for African-American rights and a lifetime supporter of his community, it's no surprise that his grand-daughter and our Executive Director, Ms. Pamela Clay, has followed in his footsteps. Mr. Marshall's values have largely inspired the work of Living Advantage and we are so excited to be able to celebrate not just his 103rd birthday, but all of his life's accomplishments on "Percy W. Marshall Sr. Day."
