    BACKGROUND
There are many reasons why companies ranging from global powerhouse IBM to your local mom and pop shop are "greening" their supply chain. Green supply chains can be more efficient, more agile, and lower cost. The reduced contribution to global climate change is an extra bonus.

Florida International University’s Ryder Center for Supply Chain Management and the Institute for Technology and Innovation at FIU’s Pino Center will host a 1-Day Green Supply Chain Forum on February 7, 2008 in Miami, Florida.

This forum will bring together some of the world's leading green supply chain experts from academia, government, and a variety of business sectors to share best practices and discuss opportunities for future collaboration. A series of panels and lectures will present the state of the art and its application across the supply chain.

Target attendees include corporate representatives interested in implementing environmentally sound solutions for their company’s operations, student representatives in environmental, engineering, supply chain and logistics studies, and the government community interested in policies for front-line green supply chain practices.

Speakers include re-known thought leaders in the following areas: Corporate practitioners, Government, Consulting, and Academia.

SupplyChainBrain, producers of this live web simulcast, is the on-line “nerve center” for supply chain news, developments, and innovative thinking. New Media Publishing Services Director for SupplyChainBrain, Anthony Chavez is moving the “new media” agenda in the supply chain management arena by bringing this simulcast to market.

“We saw an opportunity to bring this important and timely Forum to the greater global business audience by demonstrating a “Green Friendly” technology and publishing venue. CISCO-WebEx has partnered with us to bring this stimulating content without increasing the event’s carbon footprint.”

Chavez continued:” We are also pleased that we could be of service to our partners at Florida International University’s Ryder Center for Supply Chain Management, as they continue to expand their reach, their presence, and their leadership in the field of Green Supply Chain innovation. Along with the FIU Institute for Technology and Innovation, both units have capitalized on this partnership to bring leading edge content to where the industry players are all around the world. The simulcast venue is a perfect demonstration of green business practices through technology innovation.”

The Green Supply Chain Forum live web simulcast models INDUSTRY-UNIVERSITY collaboration on Green business challenges.

“As publishers of supply chain news, developments, and innovations, we at SupplyChainBrain see our role as being media partners who can bridge the content divide between industry and universities. On-the-ground forums and conferences will continue to be necessary to bring minds and ideas together; yet, we feel there is great potential for us as publishers to bring even more minds and ideas together at the speed of thought, live, and on-line like we are doing with this simulcast event.”

The simulcast audience on-line will have live Question and Answer access to the panelists along with their colleagues attending live. Panel moderators are equipped to field questions from the live audience and the live on-line audience.

SupplyChainBrain.com will bring new media content to its readership based on the recorded proceedings of the Green Supply Chain Forum and future simulcasts.

The Green Supply Chain Forum will present panelists and speakers who will address many different areas of the supply chain management industry challenges around green issues.

Keynoter Gary Hershberger, CEO, Stonyfield Farms, will speak on “Achieving Profitability through Environmentally and Socially Responsible Practices”.

Newcomers to the business of Green in supply chain management will find the panel on “The Business Case for Green Supply Chain Management” of special interest. The Business Case for Green panel will feature Adrian Gonzalez, Director of the Logistics Executive Council for ARC Advisory Group; Diane Mollenkopf; University of Tennessee, Knoxville; and Jay Falk, President, SRI World Group.

Veteran Green supply chain managers will enjoy panel presentations, case studies, and discussions in Regulations and Best Practices “In the Trenches” featuring representatives from government and industry; Best Practices in Warehousing and Facilities Design; and, case studies featuring representatives from two leading American companies, HP and General Motors, on “Green Supply Chain Practices in Reverse Logistics” and “Best Practices in Green Supplier Management”.
