- Washington, DC-MD-VA-WV (1888PressRelease) May 12, 2011 - Washington, DC's historic Henley Park Hotel presents live jazz in their Blue Bar Lounge every Saturday from 7:30 - 11:30 p.m. Listeners are treated to a rich program of lively American jazz standards, lush ballads, swing, Bossa and more.
Performances feature songstress Nancy Scimone who has entertained from New York City to the Midwest, and closer to home at the Kennedy Center, 49 West, Twins Jazz, Smithsonian National Zoo and the Carlyle Club. Her blend of sophisticated fun is meant to please both jazz newcomers and seasoned jazz lovers with favorites from the great American songbook, including tunes by Mercer, Berlin, Gershwin and DC's own Duke Ellington. Sets can include "How Deep Is the Ocean," "Unforgettable" and lesser heard tunes "The Night Has 1,000 Eyes" and Alec Wilder's "Moon and Sand." Scimone also sings French and Latin songs and performs with the regions top jazz pianists including Harry Appleman, Wade Beach and Dave Kane. There is no cover and no minimum.
The Blue Bar Lounge offers shareable small plates including tuna au poivre and artisan cheeses and desserts such as pear bread pudding. Classic cocktails and an extensive wine list are also offered. Guests can also hear the music from the Zagat-rated Coeur de Lion Restaurant. The Blue Bar's cozy tapestry seats and soft lighting create the perfect ambiance for listening or conversation (or for a proposal of marriage, which occurred recently during Scimone's delivery of "The Way You Look Tonight.")
The Henley is offering a "Jazzed About DC" weekend including a special room rate in one of their luxurious rooms, a complimentary cocktail for each guest during the jazz performance, and a "special song request" to the musicians.
A member of Historic Hotels of America, the building was constructed in 1918 and served as the home of notable Senators and Congressman. Grandly refurbished as the Henley Park Hotel in 1982, the Tudor mansion's striking architecture maintains its leaded stained-glass windows, Gothic archways and 119 grinning gargoyles.
The Henley Park is located at 926 Massachusetts Ave. NW, Washington, DC 20001. On-street and valet parking are available. Three Metro stops serve the area.
