Lion Precision President Honored With Distinguished Service Award From ASPE
ASPE (American Society for Precision Engineering) has given the 2010 Distinguished Service award to Don Martin for 20 years of service in many capacities.
- (1888PressRelease) November 19, 2010 - Don Martin, president of sensor manufacturer Lion Precision, received the Distinguished Service Award from ASPE (American Society for Precision Engineering) at their annual meeting in Atlanta, Ga. Since 1990 Martin has served in many capacities including ASPE president, board member, nominating committee chair, and co-chair of topical meetings. His leadership in numerous ANSI/ASME standards committees was also recognized as an important service to the field of precision engineering. Lion Precision products are used by many member companies to accurately measure very small dimensions and movements of critical parts and processes.
In 1985, Martin started Automated Quality Technologies to manufacturer precision measurement systems. In 1986, the company acquired Lion Precision and moved it from Boston to Minneapolis. Since then, Lion Precision has grown from a $500,000 a year company to $5M. The company's high-performance measurement systems can measure changes in an object's position as small as the width of two water molecules (0.5 nanometers). These precise measurement instruments are used in the production of semiconductor wafers, hard-disk drives, and the measurement of precision tools used to manufacture parts for aerospace, medical and other industries requiring the highest precision.
ASPE members represent a variety of technical areas - from engineering (mechanical, electrical, optical and industrial) to materials science, physics, chemistry, mathematics and computer science - and are employed in industry, academia and national labs.
