Light Middle East Opens With Focus On Emerging Technologies And Innovative Lighting Solutions

(1888PressRelease) September 13, 2011 - The Middle East's premier trade and networking platform for the lighting design and technology industry, Light Middle East 2011, got underway yesterday (Monday, September, 12th) at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, with the spotlight firmly on emerging technologies and innovations that promise to transform the current industrial scenario.

Light Middle East was inaugurated by Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, H.E. Saeed al Tayer, who was accompanied on the official walk through by senior government and industry figures, managers and industry professionals as well as management of German organiser, Epoc Messe Frankfurt. Speaking to reporters after the tour Al Tayer said: "We are trying to do our best to protect the environment by promoting green innovation technology."

"With ecological and environmental concerns high on the agenda for governments and institutions in the region, considerable interest is being expressed by delegates and partners in new trends and developments that are impacting the industry worldwide," said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of Epoc Messe Frankfurt, organiser of Light Middle East. "Leading manufacturers and service providers are leveraging the event's region-wide reach to launch their offerings into the market place. It is a market which is quickly realising the cost-benefits and ecological advantages offered by innovations in lighting design and technology," he added

BetaLED, a division of Ruud Lighting Inc is amongst the internationally renowned exhibitors launching products at Light Middle East. The company has introduced the LEDway SLM IP-66 - a new addition to their line of LEDway streetlight products. The new luminaire uses new generation technology coupled with advanced design techniques.

Christopher Ruud, President of Ruud Lighting Inc., said: "Light Middle East was the obvious platform for us to launch our latest product in the region. At the event we can reach out to some key clients as well as potential new customers working in this field."

Light Middle East 2011, which runs until Wednesday, September 14, is well established as a key trade event and conference for the region's lighting design and technology industries. After the first day. this year's event has already attracted a large number of trade professionals from across the region.

For Gerhardt Pretorius from South Africa, it was his first time at Light Middle East. He seemed impressed with the event, saying: "Though this is my first time here, I find it great since I have already found what I was looking for."

Rashid Mohammed from the UAE on the other hand has been a regular visitor to Light Middle East over the years. "I run a lighting business setting up lighting and stages for various concerts and events in the UAE. I find the event to be a great source to scout out new products and developments," he said.

Another visitor in search of new products and developments was Nazieh Khaled from Lebanon. "I have come here to discover new trends prevalent in the lighting industry as I am planning to revamp my showrooms with the latest technology," he said.
Running alongside the event is a comprehensive three-day programme of conferences and workshops featuring leading international and regional lighting designers providing insight on the hot topics and challenges facing the industry the world over. A special emphasis has been placed on implementing international lighting designs within the region, with a focus on lighting Sacred Islamic and Avant-Garde architecture.

The Green Middle East Conference, co-organised with Sesam Business Consultants got underway yesterday (Monday, September 12th). The Light Insight Arabia Conference, which is jointly organised with the Professional Lighting Designers' Association and takes place today (Tuesday, September 13th), focuses on the shape of things to come in the industry and features speakers such as Enrique Peiniger, Prof. Ing Andreas Schulz, Abdulaziz Al Azem and Ziad Fattouh amongst others, while the last day of the event, taking place tomorrow, Wednesday, 14th will see a series of workshops conducted by international experts.

The winning projects of the GE Best in Class Lighting competition by talented students of lighting technology and design are being showcased at Light Middle East. The competition, supported by the Professional Lighting Designers' Association, featured outstanding contributions by participating students from the American University in Dubai and was adjudicated by a panel of experts within the field.
