  • (1888PressRelease) September 12, 2011 - With the Middle East region's only trade and networking event for the lighting design and technology industries set to open today (Monday, September 12), trade professionals, architects, designers, project managers and developers around the region will be paying close attention to new developments in the rapidly changing world of lighting technology.

Light Middlle East 2011, which will run until September 14 at the Dubai International Convention and Exhibition Centre, is reputed to be the platform of choice, where international developers, manufacturers and service providers congregate to showcase their products and inventions to the burgeoning Middle East market.

Such is the impact of emerging technology on the world of lighting, that interest is widespread not only among the private sector developers but also among the region's authorities, keen to harness the benefits of implementing energy-efficient and green-friendly lighting solutions. Significantly, the trade fair and conference will be inaugurated by Managing Director and CEO of Dubai Electricity and Water Authority, H.E. Saeed Al Tayer.

"Sustainable development, green technology, improved energy efficiency and increased sensitivity to the environment are some of the key factors driving new developments in the lighting design and technology industries. The impact of this is evident on the international stage and is being significantly felt in the Middle East too," said Ahmed Pauwels, Chief Executive Officer of organiser Epoc Messe Frankfurt. "The tremendous changes in the global lighting market is set to transform the industry as we know it. Being the only regional trade platform, Light Middle East is proud to be the facilitator and engine that drives this change," he added.

These trends are underlined in the latest analysis from IMS Research, which indicate that the world lighting market in 2010 was worth $83 billion, with lamps making up 24% of the total. By 2015, the value of the market will surge to $115 billion, with lamps making up 33% of the total.*

Some of the prominent exhibitors showcasing their range in the latest technologies will be GE Lighting, Ruud Lighting Arabia, Thorn from The Zumtobel Group, Future Electronics, who hold an exclusive worldwide agreement with Philips Lumileds, Schreder Gulf LLC and OSRAM.

Light Middle East 2011 will also feature a comprehensive programme of conferences and workshops. The interactive forums and instructional workshops and seminars have been proving increasingly popular over the years with lighting industry professionals, designers and consultants from the Middle East.

The three-day programme, which includes Green Middle East, Light Insight Arabia Conference, a Lighting Masterclass and an Introduction to Lighting Workshop, will highlight modern trends in lighting solutions, energy-efficiency, green lighting and the potential savings in costs and resources offered by the latest designs.

Each day's programme has been tailored to address issues that impact the regional industry and is designed to benefit lighting designers and consultants, architects, government officials, engineers, developers, system solution providers and lighting suppliers. The programmes are being organised in association with Sesam Business Consultants and the Professional Lighting Designers' Association (PLDA) and enjoy the support of RUUD Lighting Arabia, OSRAM, Zumtobel and Schreder Gulf LLC.

Additionally, a new feature at Light Middle East is the GE Best in Class lighting competition. A selection of graduating students will show creative solutions in two different competition categories: façade lighting and energy saving lighting products. The best designs will be presented during the exhibition with the prize to include a visit to Light+Building, Frankfurt next April.
