(1888PressRelease) June 24, 2009 - With more smoking bans and new legislation the US Government is forcing smokers to smoke only in designated areas, pay bloated taxes and now allowing the FDA to put a seal of approval on regular tobacco; it is clear to see the US Government cares very little for the American Smoker.
When our forefathers started this country they believed in everyone’s right to “Life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness " yet each day you find your liberties taken away for your own good. In 1612 the settlers of the first American colony in Jamestown, Virginia grew tobacco as a cash crop. It was their main source of money. Tobacco helped pay for the American Revolution against England. Also, the first President of the U.S. grew tobacco.
America has been making money off tobacco since its inception and will continue to do so for many years through the new FDA regulation of tobacco. This new law will insure less nicotine in tobacco cigarettes so smokers will smoke more and take deeper drags which means even more US smokers will die from tobacco related illnesses. Big Tobacco cares only in seeing all smokers chained to their product alone with no sight of cessation or alternatives through the new FDA regulation of tobacco.
Big Pharmaceutical makes billions selling American Smokers their cessation products. Consumers spent $3 billion worldwide in 2008 on cessation products. That’s up from $1.4 billion in 2002. Still, smoking cessation products are known to be about five percent effective and 80 percent of smoking cessation product sales are made to habitual nicotine users.
