  • Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) July 01, 2022 - Film Maker Mel Andre releases their new documentary, Lesbians We Do Exist. In this new documentary, Mel Andre explores how Lesbians attempt to carve out their own space in a Gay Male Centric world.

The documentary opens with a powerful exclamation of Queer Women telling the world about their sexual orientation. While the documentary is called Lesbians We Do Exist, it centers around any type of woman who is romantically and sexually attracted to other women.

The Queer women in this documentary do not shy away from discussing the stereotypes that have followed Lesbians for decades. They explain how these stereotypes have led to a lack of spaces for Queer women.

Filmmaker, Mel Andre, sought out the Lesbian Community in Puerto Vallarta because they are actively attempting to make this beach town the hotspot for all Lesbians. In this film, we learn the different ways the community is trying to build a safe and fun space for women.

Lesbians We Do Exist introduces the audience to a growing group of Mexican Natives and Expats who are working together to grow the Lesbian Community. While the film is filmed in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, the women want the global lesbian community to see the beach town as a safe space for them to come and visit and live.

The Lesbians in this documentary allow us into their lives as they go to the only Lesbian Bar, Elixir, and they explain how they are setting up various events to bring the community together.

The documentary actively avoids the same tropes and stereotypes that are usually seen in lesbian documentaries and films. While there is mention of relationships in the film, the focus of the documentary is building community. There is no heartbreak, a man getting in the middle, or only focusing on lipstick lesbians. The film stays true to its name and shows the audience that lesbians are fighting for their space and that they do exist.
