Learning 360 Framework Raises Student Achievement
Louisiana school experiences 27 percent improvement in a single school year despite challenges of post hurricane recovery.
- Salt Lake City-Ogden, UT (1888PressRelease) September 15, 2010 - East St. John's School in LaPlace, Louisiana experienced a 27 percent improvement in a single school year for their eighth grade math students. Perry DiCarlo, principal at Fifth Ward Elementary in Reserve, Louisiana, speaks specifically of the success his school has seen since implementing the Learning 360 Framework, "Because of the Learning Framework, we now have more students at Basic and Advanced levels than students at unsatisfactory levels-a major milestone for Fifth Ward Elementary." This advancement is particularly impressive as it comes in a time when the region is still recovering emotionally, financially, and physically from the ravages of hurricanes in recent years.
Despite numerous and unique challenges schools, students and educators may face, the School Improvement Network (SINET) continues to help schools successfully make dramatic improvements in student achievement and learning using a self-sustaining learning system proven to revolutionize classroom instruction and improve student learning and test scores.
With the Learning 360 Framework, key research on teaching and learning has been aggregated into a single framework. Learning 360 Framework is a dynamic, comprehensive learning system centered on research-based principles of instructional strategies, paired with powerful teaching and student learning resulting in school-wide improvement.
Curtis Linton, Vice President, author and national expert on Equity, says that "Learning 360 Framework is of particular value to schools that are not meeting Adequate Yearly Progress (AYP)," an academic progress measurement defined by the United States No Child Left Behind Act that allows the U.S. Department of Education to determine how every public school and school district in the country is performing in relation to results on standardized tests. Complete with a 350-page Participant's Guide, Learning 360 Framework gives these schools the framework necessary to focus on rapid academic improvement.
According to company President and CEO Chet Linton, an award winning leader in educational professional development, business, and video production: "The Learning 360 Framework is the culmination and concentration of decades of research on the most powerful teaching and learning tools and principles of all time. After producing over 1,400 videos on the best practices of nearly 150 recognized experts and authors on teaching, learning, leadership, and professional development, we have been able to condense the best of the best into one learning framework to move student performance to significant levels of improvement in a relatively short period of time. "
According to the U.S. Department of Education, Title I schools that do not meet AYP for two consecutive years are placed in "School Improvement Status" and must offer alternative school attendance opportunities to students within their schools. If these same schools do not make AYP for three consecutive years, they must offer both alternative school attendance opportunities and opportunities for students to increase their learning outside of school time. If those schools miss AYP for a fourth consecutive year, they are designated as being in "Corrective Action" or "status" and must choose among strategies outlined by NCLB (No Child Left Behind). After five years of missing AYP results, the school is shut down and required to implement a complete restructuring plan.
The Learning 360 Framework has three major components to assist educators: Learning targets that are rigorous, relevant, visible, and concept-based; assessment that is purposeful, aligned, and growth-producing; instructional features and strategies which are highly effective and engaging. Schools across the country are experiencing how the Learning 360 Framework can enrich the quality of their professional development and positively impact learning and achievement.
