Leading Computer Forensics Expert Kris Haworth Launches New Company - The Forensics Group
Bay Area computer forensics expert, Kris Haworth, launches The Forensics Group to provide electronic investigative services and litigation support for Fortune 500 corporations and leading law firms.
- San Francisco, CA (1888PressRelease) January 11, 2011 - Nationally renowned computer forensics expert Kris Haworth announced today the launch of a new Bay Area company, The Forensics Group. The firm will provide a wide variety of electronic investigative services and litigation support to corporations and major law firms.
Haworth, who will lead the Petaluma-based company, is known throughout the industry as one of nation's leading computer forensics investigators. Over the past 20 years she has led numerous large-scale investigations for Fortune 500 corporations and the country's most respected law firms. Her work has resulted in a number of landmark decisions in the field of computer forensics.
"Demand for computer forensics is skyrocketing as electronic evidence becomes ever more critical in legal proceedings," Haworth said. "Recovery of electronic evidence is playing a central role in a wide variety of cases, from corporate spying and intellectual property theft to criminal investigations by local and federal agencies, as well as foreign governments."
The explosion of electronic data, new data formats, and stricter regulations is creating a huge challenge for corporations and attorneys, Haworth added. Intellectual property cases, SEC investigations, merger reviews by the Department of Justice, and thefts of proprietary company information are but a few of the issues facing corporate and government attorneys.
While timely and effective electronic investigations are critical, this can be extremely difficult for in-house legal departments. Demands for document preservation and production that a court requires can be challenging if not impossible to meet. Haworth said that's why The Forensics Group was formed.
The Forensics Group uses the most advanced computer forensics techniques to build legally defensible cases that reduce the cost and risk associated with an investigation and prosecution. The company provides a full array of electronic investigative services and litigation support designed to build legally defensible cases.
Over her 20-year career, Haworth's investigations and legal cases have established national precedent in the field of electronic investigations, including Verisign Securities Litigation, Playboy v. Welles, Advante v. Mintel, World Courier v. Barone, Align v. Orthoclear, and Trigon Ins. Co. v. USA. Her practices have been approved by government agencies, including the Department of Justice, the FBI, the FDIC, and the Securities and Exchange Commission.
"Kris combines multiple areas of expertise into a great package," said David Furbush, a partner at Pillsbury Winthrop Shaw Pittman and national co-leader of securities litigation for the law firm. "She understands litigation and the needs of litigation attorneys and the technical aspects of electronic documents and e-discovery techniques. She has handled tough, out-of-the-ordinary situations smoothly and successfully."
A licensed attorney, Haworth brings two decades of leadership in electronic investigations and prosecution to her new role at CEO of The Forensics Group. She has served as managing director of FTI Consulting's electronic discovery practice. Prior to that, Ms. Haworth led the west coast electronic discovery practice for LECG, built the electronic discovery practice for Navigant Consulting and built Deloitte & Touche's national electronic discovery service.
Haworth has been featured in several books, including Fraud and Theft of Intellectual Property, and featured in news articles in a number of publications, including the Washington Post, San Francisco Chronicle, Wired News, The New York Law Journal. She has also been a featured speaker at national conferences on high-tech crime and was nominated for Computer World's Technology Hero of the Year for her work with network surveillance tools.
