  • Miami, FL (1888PressRelease) February 03, 2012 - Several leading community and business groups are urging lawmakers in Tallahassee to support legislation that will open the door to destination resorts in Florida and the billions of dollars in new investment that will result from their development. In the last week alone, the Latin Chamber of Commerce of the United States (CAMACOL), the South Florida Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (SFLHCC), and the Brickell Homeowners Association have passed resolutions voicing their support for destination resorts in recognition of the economic boost the projects are projected to bring.

"These three organizations join a growing list of groups from across the state that understand the extent to which destination resorts will boost an economy that has been hit hard by the recession," said Christian Goode, President of Resorts World Miami, the 30-acre resort planned for downtown Miami. "Residents and businesses alike see the value the collective impact these projects will bring, ranging from an influx of millions of new visitors annually to tens of thousands of new jobs."

The largest Hispanic organization in the State of Florida, CAMACOL cited the "unique opportunity for economic stimulus" as a major factor driving their support for destination resort legislation. Similarly, the SFLHCC, which represents more than 1,000 minority-owned businesses, is supporting the proposal largely because of the significant long and short-term benefits destination resorts will deliver to its membership base and the broader South Florida economy. Representing more than 25,000 residential households, the Brickell Homeowners Association highlighted the community investment and work training programs that destination resorts such as Resorts World Miami will bring.
