- (1888PressRelease) September 25, 2010 - Le Méridien Amman, a subsidiary of Starwood Hotels and Resorts, commemorated on the 21st of September the International Day of Peace, which was established by a United Nations resolution in 1981 and was first celebrated in September 1982. In 2002 the General Assembly officially declared September 21st as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace.
Sixteen associates from Le Méridien Amman gathered on that day to reiterate the sentiment of world peace, by forming a circle representing the globe, and holding hands in a moment of silence and prayed "May Peace Prevail on Earth." The group later walked to the Peacekeeping Operations in Tabarbour and expressed their appreciation and gratitude for the efforts spent at maintaining peace and attended a presentation on the operations of the Peacekeeping unit.
Sewar Sawalha, Public Relations Manager, commented on this initiative by saying: "We are both excited and honored to have participated in the observance of the International Day of Peace. It is an opportunity for us to express respect, compassion, kindness, reconciliation and tolerance to mankind, which are the values we nurture and advocate at Le Méridien Amman."
