Laurel Bay Health and Rehabilitation Center Spreads Awareness About Child Health Day
Laurel Bay Health and Rehab is proud to spread awareness of Child Health Day, in support of healthier and happy children.
- New York, NY (1888PressRelease) September 24, 2013 - Laurel Bay Health and Rehabilitation Center is happy to help inform the public about Child Health Day this October 7, 2013. This day of national observance was established by President Calvin Coolidge in 1928, when it was observed on May 1st. That lasted until 1960, when it was transferred to the first Monday of October.
Healthcare companies and groups interested in child health are invited to join together on Child Health Day to help increase the public's knowledge of child health issues such as prenatal care, adolescent health, injury prevention, immunizations, healthy eating and healthy lifestyle.
Healthcare organizations across America mark the day in different ways, but what is most important is getting the necessary information out to the public. The Health Resources and Services Administration provides educational resources for parents and schools about important topics such as child obesity prevention. Nowadays, according to the Center for Disease Control, about one in three American kids and teens is overweight or obese, nearly triple the rate in 1963. Obese children are of course at a much higher risk for health problems when they are older.
"All of us here at Laurel Bay are happy to spread awareness of Child Health Day to the community at large. Yes we are in the geriatric field, but we recognize the need to improve the health of all Americans," commented Jennifer Horath, Administrator at Laurel Bay Health and Rehabilitation Center.
