  • (1888PressRelease) April 24, 2013 - Laura Trott of Wiggle Honda Pro Cycling Team ended the first part of the Energiewacht Tour with a best young rider jersey. Ms. Trott, a double gold champion in the Olympics, joined Wiggle Honda's two other members in the Dutch race's rooster of top 22 riders.

The other two are Dani King, a member of Great Britain's Pro Cycling Team and Olympic champion (who finished in 10th place) and Lauren Kitchen, an Australia cyclist (who finished in 13th place). Ms. Trott finished in 17th place.

"It was a good ride by all of them to make that selection," says Simon Cope, Wiggle Honda's directeur sportif.

The race experienced some bumps along the way. For one, the Dutch crosswinds caused chaos during the race. Moreover, the competition was halted about four times as the cyclists were sent off course and came to a closed railway junction.

In each instance, the leading 22 riders were permitted to restart first, only to be followed by the remaining cyclists until such time as the leading riders gain their original lead.

Being the only Under-23 rider, Ms. Trott enjoyed a comfortable lead over the other riders in her group. "Laura was the lone young rider in the group," Mr. Cope notes. He adds, "She's got a lead of one minute and one second."

All in all, Kirsten Wild of Argos-Shimano won the race, followed by Ellen van Dijk of Specialized-lululemon, and Iris Slappendel of Rabobank-Liv/Grant. Notably, the Wiggle Honda's triumvirate of Trott, King, and Kitchen finished 10 seconds behind the overall winner.

In related news, Ms. Trott recently finished fourth at the Grand Prix Dottignies in Belgium. Debuting for Wiggle Honda, she was beaten to third place by Sanne van Paassen. Teammate Dani King finished in the 12th place.

Vera Koedooder of Sengers Ladies grabbed the first place followed by Iris Slappendel of Rabobank-Liv/Giant.

"Not going to lie, found that pretty hard and didn't expect to be in a break all day, just wanted to do a good job for the team! Fourth isn't too bad," Ms. Trott posted on her Twitter account.

The Wiggle Honda team is supported by Tour de France champion Bradley Wiggins and is funded by his Wiggo Foundation.
