Launching Unravel India - An online marketplace for regional products of India
Launch of Unravel India fills a major industry void between the shoppers and the local markets of India.
- (1888PressRelease) February 14, 2013 - Gurgaon: Unravel India, up and coming innovative startup on inter regional e-commerce, officially announced its launch of e commerce portal. Unravel India has a tried and tested pan India supply chain, which allows it to pass the cost benefits to its customers.
Regional shopping is a delicacy enjoyed by individuals in the country and abroad. India is a land of diversity and each city and state has specialties that have garnered huge demands across the world. Unravel India, creates an e-fashion & Lifestyle store, that enables users from across the country to shop these inter regional specialties. Be it Chikankari sarees from Lucknow, Kantha Stole from Kolkata, Sanganeri Bed sheet or a Mirzapur carpet, Unravel India has made inter-regional shopping possible at just a few clicks. It's a unique proposition that solves a industry wide problem and has never been implemented before across India on an organized platform.
"We always felt that this market is disorganized. A few "mahotsavs' or "Haats" was all people had to shop from, when it came to shopping for regional specialties. We plan to create a robust pan India supply chain to source the products from the indigenous markets cost effectively which shall be passed over to our customers "said Deepali Pandey, founder and director of Unravel India.
Unravel India has launched its portal with more than 800 products spanning across 28 regional specialties of India. It has tied up with local suppliers to negate the cost arbitrage and pass on the cost benefits to the customer.
With such concept sites coming to the e-commerce scene, it seems these new ventures have started finding their niche. Unlike, any other ecommerce startup, Unravel has tried the concept through its beta and worked hard to create a sustainable supply chain. "The market is very competitive and one thing we realised was unless you pass the cost benefit to customer, they are not going to come back. For a startup, having a sustainable supply chain becomes even more important. Thankfully, we have got that covered" said Deepali.
Deepali has an overall experience of 5 years and has had a successful career in Finance in GE. She left her high paying job in Feb 2011 to satisfy her entrepreneurial pursuits and started travelling across the country to build a supplier base. She then started with a pilot to test the sustainability of her model through offline exhibitions.
"We are seeing great pre-orders and are very excited for an official launch. Our mission is to bring India and Indian scattered markets closer to each other than ever before. Another aspect that has struck me while I was travelling to build a pan India supplier base was the pitiable conditions of the artisans and craftsmen creating these products. Majority of these are handmade products and the craftsmen aren't paid their due by the middlemen neither in terms of money nor in terms of credit. Thus, we also plan to bring these individuals to the forefront and give them their due credit."
