His father is also a renowned name in Hindustani classical music. Born in 1939, this musical talent was inherited from his father from the time he was a child. This able man has a great contribution towards music and art. Mr. Prakash Surana also understood the intricacy of jewellery designs. The store at Jaipur was handled by him which has a great collection of Kundan, uncut polki and meenakari jewellery. He had a dream to take the culture of Jaipur to all over India and the Padmashree award reconfirms that he had achieved his dreams. Only the sad part lies that he could not see this happen in his lifetime.
Contribution To Art and Culture
Prakash ji and his friend Kaushal Bhargava worked tirelessly to revive the gayaki of Jaipur gharana. The Surana family joined hands with their founder secretary Kaushal Bhargava in the year 1964, to set up an organisation named Shruti Mandal. This cultural society was created to promote classical music and dance in Jaipur. This started as a plain enthusiastic approach and gained a cultural prominence as under Prakash Chand Surana and his able son Chandra Surana, Shruti Mandal emerged as one of the honorary organizations hosting great musical concerts. Large number of people became life members who had become the backbone of the organization. Due to Prakashji's devotion to promote classical music, Raghu Sinha became a member who left behind a good share of his wealth to promote music. Prakashji as a custodian used the money to good effect.
To mark the death anniversary of Rajmalji Surana, every year Shruti Mandal organises an annual musical festival "Surana Samriti Samaroh" . Eminent musicians like Pt. Ravi Shankar, Pt. Bhimsen Joshi, Pt. M. S. Subbalakshmi, Pt. Jasraj, Ustad Zakir Hussain, Hari Prasad Chaurasia, Pt. Shiv Kumar Sharma, Ustad Amzad Ali Khan and many have been a part of the performances. Apart from Shruti Mandal Suranas patronise numerous cultural events all over India.
