Las Vegas Children's Literacy Nonprofit, Spread the Word Nevada, Receives Largest-Ever Grant
Windsong Trust awarded a $100,000 grant to Spread the Word Nevada's children's literacy organization for the adoption of three more at risk elementary schools.
- Las Vegas, NV-AZ (1888PressRelease) March 19, 2011 - A $100,000 grant has been awarded to Spread the Word Nevada, a Las Vegas children's literacy nonprofit, the largest ever in its 10-year history.
The $100,000 grant was provided by Windsong Trust, a charitable trust based in Los Angeles, California.
This grant coincides with Spread the Word Nevada's 10-year anniversary. During its decade-long effort, Spread the Word Nevada has provided literacy programs to more than 187,000 low-income children and their families within the Clark County School District and Las Vegas Valley.
The Windsong Trust was established by an American businessman, the late philanthropist Martin Crowley, to support the education of children under the age of 18.
Vadim Fridman, Co-Trustee, of the Windsong Trust and other community partners attended Spread the Word Nevada's recent school adoption ceremony, its 23rd since the organization began in 2001. The school adoption at Lincoln Edison Elementary School included a book distribution program where students were given five books to begin home libraries, the cornerstone of Spread the Word Nevada's mission.
Funding from Windsong Trust will allow the expansion of book distributions and literacy programs to three more elementary schools by the end of 2011.
"The Windsong Trust grant of $100,000 is the largest single contribution in Spread the Word Nevada's history. This partnership comes at a crucial time when concerns about budget cuts in education are in the headlines," stated Lisa Habighorst, Executive Director. "Our mission is to continue the expansion of literacy services and books to our low-income children, which is a goal that could not come to fruition without the financial support from amazingly generous partners like the Windsong Trust."
