- (1888PressRelease) September 03, 2014 - Attorney, Lance LoRusso, author of the highly acclaimed book, When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident will be speaking at the Hunting for Heroes Banquet on September 6th beginning at 6:00 PM ET at Za-Ga-Zig Shrine Hall, 1100 Shriners Pkwy, Altoona, IA 50009. Proceeds from the event will go to benefit disabled law enforcement officers. LoRusso will also be selling and signing copies of When Cops Kill at the event. Profits from the sales of When Cops Kill go to charities benefiting disabled law enforcement officers including Hunting For Heroes.
"I am honored to be involved in the Hunting For Heroes fundraiser near Des Moines," said Lance LoRusso. "Law enforcement officers are the unsung heroes of America. Too many law enforcement officers are injured in the line of duty. Hunting For Heroes is instrumental in providing needed therapy and counseling for these officers. The motto of Hunting For Heroes is, "We take care of our own." They truly do. They make a difference in the lives of so many injured and disabled law enforcement officers and their families.
"When Cops Kill is dedicated to the selfless law enforcement officers who put their lives on the line everyday when they go to work," continued LoRusso. "I could think of no better way in honoring their sacrifice than donating the proceeds from When Cops Kill to organizations like Hunting For Heroes. I hope that everyone can attend this event and see true American heroes."
Hunting For Heroes is a national organization that provides recreational therapy and counseling for law enforcement officers severely injured in the line of duty. Disabled law enforcement officers often do not have medical or disability benefits and are sometimes dismissed from their departments when they can no longer perform their duties. Hunting For Heroes comes in and helps these officers. The organization is entirely supported by donations. It provides an all-expenses paid therapeutic retreat to the hero (the law enforcement officer), their spouse, and their children in the form of a hunt for the hero. It is hoped that this event will raise enough to help support one of the all expense paid retreats in 2015. Hunting For Heroes has reached over 250 disabled heroes and their families but has a list of over 100 heroes waiting that increases each month.
At the September 6th Hunting For Heroes banquet, among the items being auctioned will be rifles, handguns, hunting and fishing trips, as well as, gift and entertainment packages. Event tickets are $35 per person.
When Cops Kill
The Aftermath of a Critical Incident deals with the aftermath of a shooting or violent altercation and the array of issues that confront law enforcement officers after the event. The book deals with the media coverage that will follow such an incident, the investigation, the potential of a civil lawsuit and how to deal emotionally with such an incident. The book is an excellent resource for law enforcement officers and their family members for the day when the call of duty leads to more than a random warrant being served or ticket being issued. LoRusso draws on his hands-on experience as a former law enforcement officer as well as an attorney who represents law enforcement officers. Proceeds from the sale of When Cops Kill are being donated to charities for law enforcement officers and their families.
