State Conference being held June 5 -7, 2014 at the Atlanta Marriott Northwest at Galleria, 200 Interstate North Parkway SE, Atlanta, GA.
When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident is a comprehensive book for law enforcement and their family members on how to deal with the aftermath of the law enforcement officer having been involved in a shooting or violent alteration with a suspect. LoRusso, a former law enforcement officer and member of Cobb FOP Lodge 13, wrote the book with the intent of profits from the sale being donated to charities for law enforcement officers and their families.
The Georgia Fraternal Order of Police Foundation promotes a greater understanding and awareness by the public on issues affecting the law enforcement profession. The major focus of the Foundation is generating funds to assist the survivors of law enforcement officers killed in the line of duty. Through the foundation, the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police is able to receive tax-deductible donations from individuals, organizations and businesses.
The Foundation also supports injured officers and their families when they are receiving treatment at facilities in Georgia such as the Shepherd Center. LoRusso will make this initial donation to the Georgia Fraternal Order of Police Foundation President Carlton Stallings. He will also be a major presenter at the conference speaking about legal defenses for law enforcement officers in the aftermath of a deadly shooting or other critical incident during the call of duty.
"Law enforcement officers are the unsung heroes of America. Too many law enforcement officers are injured in the line of duty," said Lance LoRusso, author of When Cops Kill. "These officers face a violent altercation and are unprepared for what happens next. When Cops Kill is dedicated to and for the brave American men and women who put their lives on the line daily for each of us."
"I could think of no better way in honoring their sacrifice than donating the profits from When Cops Kill to organizations like the Georgia State Lodge - Fraternal Order of Police," continued LoRusso. "I am proud to show my support and solidarity with our men and women in uniform. I am humbled by the support they have shown for my book. I am hopeful that the message of When Cops Kill will continue to spread resulting in more donations to charities that benefit our law enforcement officers."
"Lance continues to be a strong supporter of the Fraternal Order of Police," said Carlton Stallings, President of the Georgia State Lodge - Fraternal Order of Police. "His generous donation will go a long way in assisting police officers in need throughout Georgia."
When Cops Kill: The Aftermath of a Critical Incident deals with the aftermath of a shooting or violent altercation and the array of issues that confront law enforcement officers after the event. The book deals with the media coverage that will follow such an incident, the investigation, the potential of a civil lawsuit and how to deal emotionally with such an incident. The book is an excellent resource for law enforcement officers and their family members for the day when the call of duty leads to more than a random warrant being served or ticket being issued.
