    The Official Ribbon Cutting Ceremony of Lake Wales Housing Authority's newest development, Sunrise Park is scheduled for Thursday, April 12, 2012. Albert Kirkland, Jr., Executive Director announced, "on behalf of our Executive Board, development partners Norstar Group, and staff, we're grateful to have this opportunity to better serve our community".

    The mission of the Lake Wales Housing Authority is to assist low-income families with safe, decent, and affordable housing opportunities as they strive to achieve self-sufficiency and improve the quality of their lives.

    The new addition to the Lake Wales community is located at 105 Sunrise Parkway in Lake Wales, FL. The property has been developed in partnership with the Norstar Group, which specializes in the development, construction and management of all forms of housing, as well as the implementation of retail, industrial and commercial projects.

    Phase I of the construction is complete and consists of 72 family units. The layout offers tenants one-, two-, three- and four-bedroom apartments. The project combines a mix of financing resources including low income tax credits, casualty insurance proceeds, and HUD RHF Funds.

    The ribbon cutting begins at noon and will feature the opening ceremonies, ribbon cutting, lunch and tours.

    Polk County Board of County Commissioners Melony Bell and Sam Johnson are scheduled to attend. In addition, The Honorable Michael Carter, Mayor, City of Lake Wales will be participating in the official ribbon cutting festivities.

    The Lake Wales Housing Authority (LWHA) is located in Central Florida 45 miles SW of Orlando and 60 miles East of Tampa. LWHA was created in 1969 to provide housing to low-income families. The LWHA has one development, Grove Manor, which was constructed in 1971 and a second development slated to officially open in April 2012. Currently, LWHA owns and manages 140 public housing units and administers 172 Section 8 vouchers. A five member Board of Commissioners appointed by the Mayor of Lake Wales governs the LWHA.
