  • (1888PressRelease) July 16, 2010 - LAKE ARROWHEAD, CA - When Julie Bernstein took over as the Manager of the Lake Arrowhead Village last September, she inherited the realities of a struggling economy: visitation was down and vacancies in the Village had reached a level she refers to as "uncomfortable."

However, with summer in full swing, things are looking rosy at this Alpine village tucked away in the San Bernardino Mountains. In less than a year, Bernstein's aggressive marketing and sales efforts have filled nearly all of the Village's vacancies. Among other things, Bernstein has been offering space to retailers located elsewhere on the mountain and recently took the Village to the International Council of Shopping Centers Convention in Las Vegas.

"We expect to have all the vacancies full in a month or so," she adds.

There are now two new art galleries in Lake Arrowhead Village: the Mountain Arts Network, which moved from its Sky Forest location; and D Gallery, which features works by cross sculpture artist Daniel Gerken.

Also new are Expression Women's Boutique, Rumors Salon and a RE/MAX location that occupies part of the space vacated by Geoffrey Beene when the chain closed all of its outlet locations in late 2008. After the closure of several Village restaurants last year, a new restaurant, California Thai Cuisine, has opened next to the Village Center Stage.

In addition to new retailers and restaurants, some of Lake Arrowhead Village's current tenants have expanded their space. Three Dog Bakery, which sells gourmet dog treats and other staples for pampered pets, has expanded into neighboring space to include grooming services. Trendy clothier Triangle has added a "popup store" on the peninsula which will feature seasonal specialties. And, the Lake Arrowhead Chamber of Commerce has expanded, making them more accessible to visitors.

"We feel that the tide has definitely turned," Bernstein says. "We're looking forward to a year of growth."
