Laborie, a leading developer and manufacturer of medical devices in Urology and Gynecology, continues ongoing distribution of the BRS: Bulbocavernosus Reflex System.
- (1888PressRelease) August 09, 2012 - LABORIE, a leading developer and manufacturer of medical devices in Urology and Gynecology, has offered the BRS: Bulbocavernosus Reflex System to the North and South American Urology, Urogynecology and Gynecology markets for the past two years.
Knowledge of the Bulbocavernosus Reflex (BCR) gives valuable information on how the afferent, efferent, and spinal cord component of this flexor reflex functions. Clinically the reflex (BCR) has been evaluated by observation of anal sphincter contraction after stimulation of the glans penis in men or clitoris in women. Physical examination will tell if there is a presence or absence of a response, but does not give you the important information of how fast the reflex occurs (latency).
Historically, obtaining an accurate electro physiologic reflex latency time required complex painful electrical stimulation (e-stim) of the patient's genitalia. The BRS is the first system that calculates distoproximal pudendal nerve latency using a non-invasive surface EMG and mechanical stimulation; no electrical stimulation is needed. The procedure is quick and painless; a simple tap is all the patient feels.
The Bulbocavernosus Reflex System's key benefits include a Noninvasive marker to better diagnose your patients, which allows an operator with basic training the ability to quickly and easily determine normal versus prolonged latency. This data can assist in assessment of the possible cause of a patient's urinary or fecal incontinence, retention or pelvic pain. Recent White Papers have been submitted on the BRS' assessment of neurogenic erectile dysfunction and providing a predictor for patients with refractory urinary urge incontinence secondary to neurogenic detrusor activity having success from treatments of onabotulinumtoxinA.
