Bruno Serato Earns $20,000, 1 Ton of Pasta & Toyota Van For Caterina's Club.
- Santa Ana-Anaheim-Irvine, CA (1888PressRelease) October 05, 2011 - The awards keep on comin' for chef/restaurateur Bruno Serato. The owner of the critically acclaimed Anaheim White House was honored by the Good News Foundation with a $20,000 check, 1 ton of pasta courtesy of Vons.com, and a 2012 Toyota Sienna minivan for his nonprofit, Caterina's Club, which feeds 50,000 poor "motel kids" with food from his restaurant each year. The Good News Foundation was founded by newscaster Wendy Burch ("KTLA Morning News") with support by board members Ana Garcia (NBC4), Dorothy Lucey (Fox 11's "Good Day LA"), Pat Harvey (anchor of CBS 2's 5 & 11 p.m. broadcast) and Christine Devine (anchor "Fox 11 Ten O'Clock News") to underscore the good works and positive endeavors of those in the greater Los Angeles community.
This is the latest recognition Serato has enjoyed for his humanitarian work. In addition to gracing the pages of People Magazine twice and being featured on the "CBS Evening News," Serato was named a 2011 CNN Hero and is one of 10 who will be honored at a gala in Los Angeles Dec. 11. The public is invited to cast their vote for the top pick, which will earn the recipient $250,000 for their charity. Votes can be cast by visiting heroes.cnn.com.
Serato founded Caterina's Club 6 years ago after learning that scores of underprivileged youth in his community were going to bed hungry at night. Every day since, he has coordinated the effort with the help of the local Boys & Girls Club to feed the children, whose numbers keep growing as the recession worsens. Even when difficult times meant fewer patrons in his upscale restaurant, Serato took a second mortgage on his home to keep the program going. He even purchased a fully equipped van and donated it to the Boys & Girls Club to facilitate the deliveries and any other critical transportation needs.
His restaurant, the Anaheim White House, is something of an institution. It is situated in a historic national landmark mansion dating to 1909 and specializes in northern Italian/French fare. It has won countless awards including the "International Five Star Diamond Award" from the American Academy of Hospitality Sciences and top rankings in the Zagat Dining Guide. Guests have included 2 U.S. Presidents, the Crown Prince of Belgium and celebs from Madonna and Gwen Stefani to Sidney Portier and Andrea Bocelli. The Anaheim White House is located at 887 South Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim. For reservations call (714) 772-1381 or visitwww.anaheimwhitehouse.com.
