- (1888PressRelease) October 01, 2013 - New York's first and most terrifying haunted house, NIGHTMARE, has tapped award-winning Hollywood film composer Chris Thomas to fill it's house with music this year, turning this year's installment, NIGHTMARE: KILLERS2 into a veritable horror movie with mood music, emotional cues, and crescendos that support a climax. It is the first time a New York haunted house will be able to boast an original score.
"When was the last time you went to a movie or theatre and there wasn't an original score?" asked producer Steve Kopelman. "This is an idea long past due in the haunted house industry and we are proud to be partnering with Chris to provide the first original score for a NYC haunted house. Over the past 10 years we have prided ourselves on innovation and believe this is another way to better our patron's experience."
Chris Thomas recently scored the animated film, Cadaver, starring Kathy Bates and Christopher Lloyd. In 2013, his score for Grow Up, Tony Phillips was voted best soundtrack at SXSW film festival. In 2010, Chris wrote music for the documentary, Woman Rebel. The film was short-listed for an Academy Award, won the International Documentary Award, and was nominated for an Emmy Award. In 2011, Chris won Best Film & TV Music at the eWorld Music Awards in Hollywood, and the Gold Medal Prize from the Park City Film Music Festival. In 2007, Chris was nominated for Best Orchestrator at the Film & TV Music Awards in Hollywood. He also orchestrated for the Sundance-winning foreign film, Captain Abu Raed. It too was short-listed for an Academy Award. That same year Chris was a music editor for Sony Pictures Dragon Wars. In television, Chris briefly orchestrated and conducted (uncredited) on ABC's hit show LOST. He has also composed special features music for CSI:NY.
KILLERS2 is a horrifying, immersive haunted house experience about our obsession and fascination with serial killers both real and fictional. KILLERS2 is the follow-up to last year's widely talked about, highly successful and critically acclaimed "Killers" installment and will run September 27th through November 2, 2012 at the Clemente Soto Velez Cultural Center, 107 Suffolk Street between Rivington and Delancey on Manhattan's Lower East Side. www.hauntedhousenyc.com
This year, visitors navigating the tormenting labyrinth of NIGHTMARE: KILLERS2 will encounter various psychopaths, including Harrison Graham, Aileen Wournos, and Charles Manson - among others - who are neither glorified or romanticized - but rather presented for what they are...scary as hell! Focusing on both the perpetrators and their victims, both historical and contemporary, KILLERS2 sets out to prove that the most haunting experiences are those that are real. There is nothing more frightening than the monsters that walk among us.
Production Design for NIGHTMARE: KILLERS2 is lead by Paul Smithyman. Art direction is by Justin Haskell and David Hinkle, sound design is by David Roy, costume design is by Sarah Swafford, lighting design is by Garin Marshall. Video design is by Alana McNair.
