  • Orlando, FL (1888PressRelease) July 23, 2010 - Making his debut GRAND-AM Continental Tire Challenge Series, young up-and-coming Mustang Challenge Series driver Kyle Gimple of Minden, Nevada lit up the track at the New Jersey Motorsports Park for Garden State 250. Racing twice in the Mustang Challenge Series, he finished fourth in his first race from his ninth place starting position and in his second race led flag to flag for his first career win in the Mustang Challenge Series. In the Continental Tire Challenge, he and co-driver Alex Talbot finished 18th with a fast lap time of 1:37.713 driving the Matt Connolly Motorsports Mazda Miata MX-5 sponsored by Interconex, A2Z Racer Gear, and P1 Groupe.

"Even though we had a little issue early on in the race, it was a very good weekend for my debut," said Gimple. "Matt Connolly and his team were really on top of everything that was happening during the whole weekend. When we had a throttle issue early in the race, they got down to it and found the issue right away and got us back on the track so we could start racing again. Alex Talbot did a good job in keeping the car in one piece for when I got in the car to finish the race."

Gimple showed strong promise throughout the weekend in taking on double duty in different series' and very different race cars. In Gimple's first race he qualified in ninth position and ran strong throughout the race. In his second race of the weekend Gimple qualified in pole position, his first in the Mustang Challenge Series.

In the Continental Tire Challenge, Talbot qualified21st in ST class with a team best time of 1:36.737. The driving pair stayed mentally strong throughout, even while enduring some early problems with the car when it had stopped out on the course, losing six laps. Despite this the team endured with Gimple taking over. Driving with the skill that is making him a new fan favorite, Gimple led the team to an 18th position finish.

Gimple, although young, has already achieved success in his short career, taking Rookie of the Year honors in the 2009 Skip Barber Western Regional Championship, and finishing 3rd in Driver Championship points. This was followed up by winning the 2010 Skip Barber Western Regional Championship with an impressive 6 Wins and 11 Podium finishes in just 12 events before signing with ICY Racing of the 2010 Miller Cup Mustang Challenge. To date Gimple sits 10th in the Driver Points Championship in the Mustang Challenge although he missed the opening round of the series. Kyle has competed in four of the five events in 2010 with all four starts inside the Top-10 with two Top-5 finishes, including one podium finish at Lime Rock Park.
