Together, Kris-Leigh Assisted Living and The Anne Arundel County Department of Aging and Disabilities (DoAD) will sponsor its Winter/Spring 2012 Family Caregiver Support Program Workshop Series "Caring for You".
Indianapolis, IN (1888PressRelease) January 12, 2012 - This Workshop Series will provide three different workshops and will be offered, March 12, 19 and 26, from 5:30pm to 7:30pm. We would like to welcome older adults, baby boomers, and their families, informal and professional caregivers, geriatric care managers, and anyone else in a care giving role. This workshop series will be held at the Catherine L. O'Malley Senior Center, 1275 Odenton Road, Odenton, MD 21113 in Anne Arundel County.
The first topic in this series will be held March 12, 2012 and is called "Christmas In July?". This workshop will address loved ones with dementia who may be trapped in the moment, with no concept of time. If these moments are boring, confusing, or frightening they can also result in challenging behaviors. During this workshop caregivers will learn how to identify and engage loved ones in meaningful activities. This will create joyful moments, not only for loved ones but for themselves too.
On March 19, 2012 we will offer Workshop #2 in the series called, "Stop! I want to get off…" This workshop will discuss the caregiver experience as a "roller coaster of emotions" and how one may wonder if the ride will ever end. In this workshop, caregivers will learn about normal and not-so-normal emotions. They will learn how to effectively manage stress, understand the meaning of "Ah Ha!" moments, and learn essential coping skills to be able to enjoy the "ride."
On March 26, 2012 we will offer Workshop #3 I the series called, "Health is More than Physical…". This workshop will address physical, emotional and spiritual health as a package deal, with one being dependent on the others. In this workshop caregivers will learn how to strengthen and maintain their 'package deal' through good nutrition, setting and maintaining boundaries, and nurturing their spirits. To register for this workshop series call: 410-222-4464 ext. 3043 or register on-line at: www.aacounty.org/Aging
