Kramden Institute, Inc. Announces Partnership with Looking Glass Communications, Inc.
Local Small Business Donates Public Relations Services to Area Non Profit.
- Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill, NC (1888PressRelease) March 27, 2013 - Kramden Institute, Inc., a non-profit dedicated to empowering hardworking, yet economically-disadvantaged students to cross the digital divide, is proud to announce a partnership with Looking Glass Communications, Inc., a Raleigh-based public relations and creative firm. The partnership has been established to help increase awareness of Kramden's services and help the non-profit achieve its goal to refurbish and award 3,000 computers in 2013.
Since its founding in 2003, Kramden has awarded more than 12,500 home computers directly to students across 60 of North Carolina's 100 counties to help advance their academic and personal achievements. The organization collects donated personal computers, laptops and peripherals; refurbishes the equipment; and awards them to students in grades 3-12 who do not have a working computer in their home. Students are nominated by a teacher, educator or school. Kramden also has a program to provide reduced-cost computers to non-student populations to ensure that more people in our state have access to the world of electronic information.
"We are doing so much more than simply giving away computers. Each computer can be a gateway to greater opportunity for these students, both in their academic lives and beyond. The fact is that without access to technology, people cannot maximize their potential," says Michael Abensour, Executive Director at Kramden Institute. "And this process is a win-win-win: good for the students and individuals receiving the computer, good for the community members who come to Kramden to refurbish and award them, and good for the environment by extending the useful life of these computers and reducing e-waste in landfills," adds Abensour.
"We're thrilled to be able to spread our message through the generous help of Looking Glass. Not only are they on the cutting edge of media and marketing, but their experience in the non-profit sector means that they know our unique needs."
As Kramden prepares for upcoming events and announcements, Henderson and her employees will be donating strategic public relations services in an effort to help Kramden achieve stronger name recognition and brand awareness and educate people on the value Kramden offers to area communities.
"It's exciting to be part of the good works that Kramden is doing," say Megan Henderson, Lead Visionary and Owner of Looking Glass Communications. "In this technology-driven world, we don't want to see anyone left behind because they don't have access to a computer," adds Henderson.
As Looking Glass Communications celebrates seven years in business, Henderson attributes her success to a blend of steady client work and corporate philanthropy. Looking Glass is committed to corporate philanthropy and community involvement with its employees serving in board of director's positions and leadership roles with the Food Bank of Central & Eastern North Carolina, North Carolina Big Sweep, Inc. and the Neuse River Golden Retriever Rescue.
In 2012, over 10% of Kramden's computers were awarded to students of military families in North Carolina. Kramden plans on doing computer awards this year at the Marine Corps Air Station in Cherry Point, with the National Guard and at Ft. Bragg.
