- Los Angeles-Long Beach, CA (1888PressRelease) October 03, 2013 - Kollaboration Star, the largest Asian American talent competition featuring the best Asian talents in North America, is back for a second year on Saturday, November 16th at the Pasadena Civic Auditorium. As the capstone to the non-profit organization's annual talent competition series, Kollaboration Star highlights the winners from the thirteen local Kollaboration talent contests this past year, all competing to win the esteemed national title of Kollaboration Star. Out of the thirteen city representatives, only six finalists will be selected based on an online vote, which opens in October, and flown out to Los Angeles to compete for the title and a $20,000 Grand Prize.
Kollaboration is also proud to announce that legendary Korean-American hip hop artist Tiger JK, accompanied by his wife, R&B singer and rapper Yoon Mi Rae (also known as Tasha) and fellow label member Bizzy, will grace the stage with a special, one-hour guest performance. The Godfather of Korean hip-hop made a comeback this year as Drunken Tiger with Yoon Mi Rae and Bizzy, releasing their brand-new EP "The Cure."
After a 4-year hiatus, "The Cure" is the first album since the hip-hop pioneer started his new label Feel Ghood Music, and Kollaboration Star 2013 will be the group's first U.S. performance since its release. Growing up in Los Angeles, Tiger JK himself suffered racial discrimination as an Asian American and witnessed the multicultural violence of the Rodney King Riots in 1992. "The Cure" album is also a tribute to the trials and tribulations the rapper has overcome in the last few years with its title track dedicated to his father, who is currently battling cancer. Having risen from those struggles, Drunken Tiger is a representation of the dreams performers in the Asian Pacific Islander communities strive towards, and Kollaboration is proud to have the trio come support its movement.
Along with Drunken Tiger, Kollaboration Star 2013 will also be hosted by comedian David So and include guest performances by Kollaboration founder, comedian Paul 'PK' Kim as well as Kollaboration alumni Mike Song and KRNFX. The event is already proving to be a star-studded affair as Kollaboration continues to provide API artists with greater visibility and even bigger creative platforms to spotlight their talents. Tickets go on sale October 10th.
