Kiyonna Says "Texting And Driving" Is More Than A Fashion Don't
More important than pondering over military, tie dye or nautical trends, Kiyonna™ Clothing, designer of stylish plus size women's apparel in sizes 10-32, takes a more serious and important step towards stemming this growing new obsession of texting and driving.
- (1888PressRelease) July 17, 2010 - As part of the nationwide program, the No Phone Zone, Kiyonna™ has adopted a new company wide policy called "Oprah's Final 10." In an effort to discourage employees from texting on their way home, the last 10 minutes of the workday is now dedicated to getting those last minute messages to their family and friends before heading into their cars.
Kim Khanbeigi, Passionate Founder and President explains how this new company policy was conceived, "Recently when I went to see a movie, Oprah made this moving public service announcement during the previews. With a solemn face and standing next to grieving parents, she showed a picture of their little girl who was run down by a driver who was texting. As the mother of 2 little girls myself, I was moved to take action. I knew as a business owner, I could do more than just sign the pledge. That's how the idea behind the "Oprah's Final 10" was born."
In a research conducted by Dr. David Strayer of the University of Utah, the risk of an accident goes up 400% if talking on the phone (similar to being intoxicated with a blood alcohol level of .08) and more dramatically increases by 800% if the driver is texting. The alarming statistics coupled with number of accidents involving distracted drivers cannot be ignored.
In the latest episode of Kiyonna's Webisode Series, Setting the Curve, viewers are taken behind the scenes of the company's headquarters as employees sign the pledge and make the decision to curb this dangerous habit.
