Kim Rivera Attended 6th Annual DirectWomen Board Institute In New York
Organization Formed To Position Women Lawyers To Serve On Boards Of Public Companies Selects DaVita HealthCare Partners' Chief Legal Officer To Attend Institute.
- Denver, CO (1888PressRelease) May 20, 2014 - Kim Rivera, Chief Legal Officer and Corporate Secretary for DaVita HealthCare Partners, attended the DirectWomen Board Institute from January 22-24 in New York City. DirectWomen, an organization formed to position women lawyers to serve on boards of public companies, selects a group of qualified women lawyers from a competitive pool of applicants across the country to participate in the three-day program.
At the DirectWomen Board Institute Rivera attended informational sessions on key issues facing current and future corporate directors and had the opportunity to interact with Institute alumnae and past honorees. The Institute was co-chaired by Professor Hillary A. Sale, Walter D. Coles Professor of Law and Professor of Management at Washington University in St. Louis and Professor Lisa M. Fairfax, Leroy Sorenson Merrifield Research Professor of Law at the George Washington University Law School. Institute faculty featured leading experts on corporate governance as well as experienced directors and officers of large public companies. Speakers covered topics such as the role and work of nominating board members, the evolving nature of shareholder relations, the strategic role of audit committees and the role of executive search firms in board searches.
Rivera has 20 years of experience advising Fortune 500 companies on corporate transactions including acquisitions and divestitures, governance, compliance, risk management and litigation. In her role at DaVita she is responsible for global risk management, internal audit and legal matters. Rivera has helped navigate the company and its board through the company's most significant corporate acquisition, international expansion, a standstill with the company's largest shareholder, updating governance and shareholder engagement strategies, multiple regulatory investigations against the backdrop of the most fundamental regulatory shift in healthcare since the advent of Medicare.
Before joining DaVita, Rivera was the Chief Compliance Officer and Head of International Legal Operations at The Clorox Company. She oversaw global labor and employment counseling and litigation for the enterprise. Rivera has also served on numerous non-profit boards including the California Latino Community Foundation and the Denver Metro Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. Rivera began her career at Jones Day where she advised Fortune 500 companies on diverse litigation matters including class action, commercial, employment and product liability matters. Rivera received her bachelor's degree from Duke University and her Juris Doctor from Harvard Law School.
