The Kilah Davenport Foundation created for young abuse victim has now become a Non-Profit Foundation.
- Charlotte-Gastonia-Rock Hill, NC-SC (1888PressRelease) January 30, 2013 - Kilah Davenport is beautiful young girl that was violently injured on May 16, 2012 while in the care of a family member. Originally, her injuries were not considered something she could survive, but with multiple surgeries, rehabilitation and hard work, she is on her way to recovery.
The non-profit, Kilah Davenport Foundation, seeks to encourage and promote activities and programs that are meant to strengthen and unify the prevention of child abuse. In addition, they seek to provide financial and educational resources for victims as well as their families that have suffered abuse.
Kilah's grandmother, Leslie Davenport, the foundation spokesperson, said it would focus on going to the homes of victims to make necessary adjustments before they returned from the hospital, getting supply information from doctors, and helping children get necessities like wheelchairs and braces at no cost to the families.
She explained how her family was helped by the community - the driveway paved, a wheelchair ramp built, and a bathroom remodeled - all for Kilah's return home. She said the family wants to give that kindness to others.
"These are the kind of things our foundation wants to be able to do for other people," she said, "We will begin working to make this foundation help people nationwide, not just in North Carolina."
