- (1888PressRelease) January 12, 2015 - KeyTagSRus.com, the brainchild of former child star Oliver Robins and "Poltergeist" fame, launches a line of pop culture and horror movie inspired keytags.
Inspired by an event at horror movie convention, a fan asked Robins, "Do you have a souvenir I can take home to remember the movie?"
At that time, Robins did not have a memento to give out. Oliver thought of the idea of placing key phrases, hotel names or addresses inspired by a famous place or 80s horror movies on the front and back of old fashioned motel keytags. Oliver explains, "The keytags are a little piece of americana mixed together with cultural references from movies and iconic places."
The first KeytagsRUs.com keytag was inspired by Robins' work in Poltergeist:
On the front of the keytag is "Cuesta Verde Realty" and on the back is the catch phrase, "The grass is always greener on every side."
After some time Robins developed concepts for other keytags. Robins explains the idea is to come up with an imagined line or place that could have been part of the mythology of a movie, song, or television series.
Oliver explains how he came up with the idea behind the JAWS keytag:
"Of course, there was never an actual hotel in JAWS called the AMITY SURF INN, but it's certainly makes you wonder whether it could have been an actual place in the movie. It's always amazing to see someone's eyes light up when they get the connection between the made up tagline and the movie we are referencing."
So far Robins has a line up of nearly 30 different keytags, referencing some of his favorite films, TV series, and other iconic locales in the USA.
The keytags are sold online at www.keytagsrus.com and in stores in in Los Angeles, San Diego, San Francisco, and New York. In New York City, they are being sold exclusively by Forbidden Planet.
