Key-Whitman Eye Center, recognized as a leading eye-care facility for more than 45 years recognizes August as Cataract Awareness Month.
- (1888PressRelease) August 03, 2011 - Dallas, Texas - In America, there are almost 22.3 million people age 40 and older with cataracts and cataracts have been one of the leading causes of blindness in the world. It is also estimated that more than half of all Americans will have cataracts by age 80.
During the August 2011, Key-Whitman Eye Center will offer tips about prevention and provide information about cataract surgery. Many are not aware that a cataract is actually a clouding of the crystalline lens of the eye preventing light rays from passing through it easily.
The Symptoms of Cataracts Include:
• Difficulty seeing street signs, curbs, and freeway exits
• Difficulty seeing traffic lights and halos or glare around lights
• Difficulty seeing TV, movies or the faces of those around you
• Difficulty reading printed materials such as books, newspapers and medicine labels even with good light and proper glasses
• Difficulty with handiwork such as needlepoint, sewing or car repairs
• Difficulty with writing checks, reading bills or filling out forms
• Difficulty playing cards, bingo, dominos or other sport activities such as bowling, hunting, golf or tennis
• Difficulty navigating around the house and with activities such as cooking, ironing, climbing stairs, dialing the telephone, and reading your watch
