Kenyon Glover Gives Back To Youth Through Summer Basketball Camp
The Actor Shares His Pro Basketball Experience With Indiana Kids.
- (1888PressRelease) July 31, 2013 - Kenyon Glover, the former NBA and international professional basketball player now turned Hollywood actor, flew to Indiana this week to take part in a youth basketball camp and share his experiences and skills with area youth. The middle school age camp, taking place in Logansport, is sponsored by Go Indie TV runs through Friday of this week. Young players will learn fundamentals of the game, get to compete with each other, and gain valuable insight on college and professional level basketball thanks to Glover's instruction.
"I didn't just do this to teach the kids about basketball," Glover explained on why he flew all the way to Indiana to do a summer camp. "I did it because I care about kids and I care about life beyond basketball. I saw an opportunity to pass on what I've learned, sometimes the hard way, about priorities and sports."
Glover is referring to the fact that his professional career, he played on a pro team in London, England before being picked up by the Milwaukee Bucks of the NBA, was cut dramatically short by a career-ending knee injury just months into his NBA career. It was a devastating accident for a man who spent most of his life playing basketball, from high school to starring at the University of Maine. The disappointment was overwhelming, but he bounced back and reinvented himself as a model then actor and now finds himself starring in or appearing in commercials and a number of Hollywood film projects.
Glover added, "I've been through the extreme highs and the very lows of sports and life, so I want to share with these kids that basketball is important and to have fun, even go after their dreams of going pro if they are good enough. But I want them to also know that it is not all there is."
After this camp, Glover heads back to L.A. to continue prepping for his next starring roles, in a new feature film, "It's Good To Be A Gangster," and in for the second season of the popular web series, "Anica." He then flies to Atlanta to finish up another film called "Losing Everything." He will also be releasing a new inspirational book in August, titled "Chasing A Dream," about his life and the lessons he has learned along the way.
Kenyon Glover is indeed living proof that there is more to life outside of sports and basketball. But that doesn't mean he doesn't still love the sport and is enjoying helping these Indiana middle schoolers improve their games.
