Ken Livak, Fluidigm to Speak at Single Cell Analysis Conference, May 22-23, 2014, in Cambridge, MA
Ken Livak, Senior Scientific Fellow at Fluidigm will give a featured presentation titled, "Driving Genomics to the Single-Cell Level: RNA Expression Profiling Using qPCR and RNAseq," at the Inaugural Single Cell Analysis Conference to be held in Cambridge, MA on May 22-23, 2014 by GTC.
- (1888PressRelease) February 10, 2014 - Ken Livak's talk will cover:
• The nature of eukaryotic transcription in single cells
• How microfluidics can be used to obtain data from enough genes and enough cells to be
statistically relevant
• Overview of statistical methods needed to address the noise inherent in single-cell
transcription
• Highlights of recent research that illustrate emerging principles of how to analyze single
cell RNA expression data
Dr. Livak is Senior Scientific Fellow at Fluidigm and is charged with pioneering novel assays on Fluidigm microfluidic platforms. His current focus is on enabling robust quantification of RNA transcripts in single cells. He has recently relocated to the Boston area to help spearhead a Single Cell Genomics initiative in partnership with the Broad Institute. Prior to joining Fluidigm, Dr. Livak spent 13 years at Applied Biosystems improving the robustness and versatility of using fluorogenic (TaqMan) probes in the 5' nuclease PCR assays and coordinating scientific efforts across all instrument platforms. He has 30 issued U. S. Patents and 59 peer-reviewed publications.
